Creative writing rounds

5 May

My Year 9 students have been working on developing their descriptive and creative writing.  To get them thinking creatively I put together a series of prompts (taken from novels, short stories and poems) that will challenge them to think outside the box.

Each student will be given handout (collection of handouts can be found here: HANDOUT – Creative writing rounds).  They will read the prompt on the handout provided and then complete the first box (character description).  They will have five minutes to do this to the best of their abilities.  Then, they will pass the page clockwise, read the prompt on the new handout, and complete the setting description box.  After five minutes they will receive a third prompt and will use the information provided in the previous boxes to write the first paragraph or so of a narrative.
