An alternate approach to analysis

6 May

My Year 11 students often struggle to deeply and meaningfully engage with the language of their texts.  To assist them, I have isolated the first few paragraphs of Of Mice and Men and completed the relevant analysis for them.   The catch is that I have purposefully not included the relevant quotes.   See: HANDOUT – Analysis activity chapter 1.

Students have to then use the extract to source relevant quotes for each analysis dot point.  Once they have sourced appropriate quotes, students are encouraged to rewrite the dot points in ways that demonstrate an ability to integrate the quote(s) into the analysis.
