New perspectives – letter writing

1 Mar

I have written previously about exploring representations of gender and how society seeks to discuss women’s bodies.  I am blogging about this topic again because I recently read an interesting article in The Huffington Post entitled ‘I wrote a letter to my body’.  As suggested by the title, the author of this article penned a letter to her body apologising for the damage caused by negative thoughts and an eating disorder.

If I taught a unit engaging with these issues, I think it would be interesting to show this letter, perhaps offering students an opportunity to write a letter to something or some part of themselves that they feel they have wronged.
