Demonstrating understanding

Each year I try to create at least one unit for each class in which they engage with social issues.  This year, one of my junior classes is studying how ideas about racial prejudice are represented in a range of texts.

In order to test my students’ understanding of the central concept of the unit and of the first few texts they have studied, I want them to create a magazine cover for a new magazine.  They will need to name the magazine, create the cover art, and also summarise each text into pithy and enticing statements, intended to attract the interest of potential readers.
